The New Zealand Certificate in Security (Foundation) (Level 3) is designed for individuals entering the security industry, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge to perform basic security services safely and effectively. The programme emphasises professional approaches in observation, communication, conflict management, customer service, and teamwork.
The NZQA unit standards required for obtaining the Certificate of Approval (CoA) are included in this certificate.
At the end of the training, trainees will have completed their full Certificate of Approval (CoA), an essential qualification to work in the security industry. People who have this level 3 qualification will be able to work as part of a team with limited supervision.

Blended learning – The programme employs a blended learning approach, combining face-to-face workshops with online learning. Participants will engage in workshops, independent study using workplace documents, study guides, online resources, and on-the-job training. Assessment tasks are designed to demonstrate the ability to make responsible decisions and respond appropriately in typical security situations. Trainers provide guidance to help learners practise and master the necessary skills to attain the certificate.
Upon completion, graduates can pursue roles such as crowd controllers or property and personal guards across various settings, including public and private buildings, retail stores, office buildings, banks, large events, licensed premises, hospitals, mobile security patrols, and transportation terminals. With experience, individuals may advance to senior positions within security organisations.
